Branding Your Online Business

Branding Your Online Business

As an affiliate marketer you will want to have your own web site to promote your affiliate products.  In order to brand yourself and build trust within the Internet community you will need to convince your visitors that you are a real person.  The best way to do this is to use your name, picture, phone number or email contact information on your web site.  Another way to brand yourself is to register a domain in your own name.  If your name is not available, try adding your middle initial, or “whois” in front of your name.  For example, my name was already taken so I added my middle initial:  http://garyjbraun.com

If your web visitors make contact with you make sure that your response is professional and courteous.  I do not recommend using a personal phone number that may be answered by other family members or answering in a noisy area where non-business-like noise may be present.  This is your business so make sure you treat it like one.  If necessary, consider a phone answering service or use a voice mail service where you can return the calls at your convenience rather than being caught off guard.

I have been doing business on the Internet for a number of years and it amazes me how many times I receive calls from people trying to verify if I am legitimate.  They usually share a story about a bad experience they encountered on the Internet and had no way of contacting the vendor for resolution.  I have successfully converted many prospects into sales because I was able to quickly build a personal relationship and earn their trust, simply because I was not hiding behind my website.

That being said, there are some risks involved in presenting your identity online.  First of all, I do not recommend using your home address or a PO Box.  There are a number of services available where you can rent a personal mail box with a commercial physical mailing address.  This provides you with a business store front image in a commercial zone with a physical address.  Other advantages of a personal mail box include better shipping rates if you are dealing with physical products.  Most mail centers have employees available during business hours so there is always someone to sign for packages when necessary.  Additionally, many communities have ordinances against operating a business from your home, especially if you will be receiving deliveries or have customer traffic.

Recent data privacy regulations have made it slightly more difficult to find out private information about a person on the Internet.  However, much of the information is still available for a fee, but this does deter casual users from snooping into your private affairs.

Most Internet marketers will list their email address as a way to contact them on their web site instead of their phone number.  It is always a good idea to have an email link published on your web site or a contact form that sends you an email so that people can contact you 24/7.  However, publishing you email address is likely to be the cause of most of the spam you may already be receiving. Websites, forums, blogs, etc. are visited by spammers with “robots” or “spambots” for the sole purpose of collecting email addresses.  This process is called “harvesting.”  There are however, simple and effective techniques available to safely publish an email link on a web page. Those techniques allow legitimate users to contact you through their email client, while not revealing your real email address on the web site to spammers. Several anti-spam tools exist that generate spam- protected emails links. Using these tools will only stop spambots from harvesting your email address in the future.  So if your address has already been published on the web unprotected for some time, it most likely has already been harvested and sold to many spammers, so you will continue receiving spam at that address. You should consider creating a new email address and protecting it with an anti-spam tool before publishing on your website.

I have been using a free service from Syronex for several years now and have had no complaints with it.  Their system is easy to use and instructions are provided on their web site.  There is no software to install.  All you have to do is fill in a few blanks on their web site and upload the code that they generate to your web site.  Here are the steps involved:

Step 1: Enter your real email address.
Step 2: Enter a link title such as “
Contact Me.
(You have an option to pre-fill the subject line for the email from the link.  This is a good idea if you have multiple links or websites to determine where it is originating from.)
(You also have the option to use a “User Challenge” where the user has to type the matching picture of letters and numbers.)
Step 3: Copy the generated code to your website where you want your link to appear.
Step 4: (This step is only required if you utilize the “User Challenge” option.)  Save the two files (HTML and image file) by clicking on the links provided.
(They should be placed in the same folder as your web page, and should not be renamed.)

Do You Have What It Takes To Be An Affiliate Marketer?

Each of us has our own interest or hobby. Some love all kinds of books, music, and movies while others are into sports and traveling. There are also people who love to grow flowers and love pets. These hobbies help us to relax and forget our everyday problems and troubles and they are common to people. But not everyone has a hobby that makes money for them except when their job becomes their passion.

A money making hobby could let you treat your family and friends with the extra cash or you could even quit your current job that you almost certainly hate. That is why many of us today go online to start a business; the reasons are either to supplement income or to gradually replace an offline income from a job. Affiliate marketing is a great way to start in making money online.

Affiliate marketing is a revenue sharing partnership between a web merchant and one or more affiliates. The affiliate is paid a commission for referring clicks, leads or most often sales to the merchant. An affiliate’s advantage is that he can make money in a business where he doesn’t have the upfront costs of creating his own product, and he doesn’t have to worry about e-commerce, bookkeeping, or even customer support for it is the merchant’s responsibility.

Now, for sure you want to be an affiliate marketer with all that benefits an affiliate could get. But, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer? Before you begin your venture into affiliate marketing, you need to decide first which area interests you. What products do you know the most about and which products could you do the best job of selling? Once you discover your specialty, perseverance, patience, determination comes next. These are the qualities you should possessed to be a good affiliate marketer.

Too many online business prospectors lose out because they become impatient. You also have to know what your strengths are; the things in which you are good at, and your capabilities and abilities related to your chosen passion. The most important thing is you have to have is a strong desire to succeed in affiliate marketing.

To be an affiliate marketer is not an easy task. You have to learn the techniques of marketing your product or service. You shouldn’t be looking at every chance, because marketing is all about attracting someone to look at this or that particular opportunity. To be a successful affiliate marketer, you should learn how to listen and to be taught because as in life we need to learn skills to get by.

For an affiliate marketer, you should know how to market your site effectively, it will enable you to get thousands of visitors coming to your site, which transforms into more sales. This only means that the faster you set up a website, the bigger your chances of making money online quickly. You should avoid the same mistakes some affiliates make everyday, i.e., only building a short-term business where they just make a small sale. Make sure you do understand that you should be building a long-term affiliate business and not just something that makes you a few dollars on one sale.

It is also better to have knowledge on how to upsell your visitors for expensive services. This will in turn make you become recognized as an expert in your field and making money will be easier. There are some people who think that just by having affiliate links on their website will bring them good profits. This can have some truth to it, but then most successful affiliates still believe that making use of strong marketing campaigns for their affiliate programs is important. But affiliate marketers become much more successful when they treat their customers or online visitors as friends. Make a commitment to establish relationships with your customers and especially with visitors to your site. It is very important for an affiliate marketer to have a good business relationship with customers or visitors.

You should also be creative. The real key to being successful with affiliate marketing is to develop a good content based website and weave your affiliate links into all your content. You have to provide your prospects with good, quality content to keep them coming back to your site. So, do you have what it takes to be an affiliate marketer?

A Warning to New Affiliate Marketers

Who knew that one of the seven deadly sins is also deadly to your business?

Newbie affiliates without a focus are often drawn to pre-built sites with pre-made affiliate links and content.  The problem with these types of sites is that most people tend to give into human nature – laziness. They are too lazy to make changes to the templates. Too lazy to modify the content and make it their own or add fresh, new content to their site. All of this inaction makes their site one in several thousand of the exact same site – not effective as the way to set yourself apart from others are giving points of difference.

Most people do not realize that affiliate marketing does, in fact, take work. It is not a “get rich quick” scheme. You will have to invest time to make your online business a success. If you allow yourself to be lazy and not change and maintain these types of sites, you will get hit with the Google duplicate content penalty – or worse…Google may even de-index your site.

Always remember that targeted sites built specifically for the product you are promoting work the best. Don’t take the easy route on your business…it won’t pay off.
